HASTE

This was my 2nd project, done as part of the General Assembly coursework. We had just learnt about Node and Express and were told to build an app with them. The framework was quite straightforward. It was like HTML but with a bit of routing and data fetching from external APIs.

Features:

• Index of orders/deliveries + summary bar
• Integrated Google Maps
• Integrated OneMap API for postal-to-coordinates conversion
• Data stored in MongoDB cloud
• Staff login using Passportjs

Pathfinder

I remember seeing one of these at the start of my course and being very amazed. So when I got my own to work, you might imagine how happy I was.

Coding this made me realise that even when an algorithm can be fairly easy to understand, it can be extremely difficult to turn into a visual. Through this, I also learnt that DOM nodes can be used to store a ton of information.

Sudoku

My very first JavaScript project. It was built as part of the General Assembly coursework. The solver has to use recursion (as I was told by the Internet). I must have spent a whole day trying to familiarise myself with the concept.

• Built-in solver programmed using recursion
• Board difficulty selection or custom
• Animated helper

Sorting visualiser

Currently, the sorter runs 4 sorting algorithms: Quick, Merge, Bucket, and Heap. I hope to implement more.

It is much easier, I found, to manipulate the attributes (height, color, etc.) of the nodes rather than the shift them around. They get 'lost' sometimes when you have clone them. Nevertheless, the process of studying the algorithms and visualising them was extremely enjoyable and satisfying.

Singlish Dictionary

The 3rd project for the course. A Singlish online dictionary built using Rails 6. The difficulty here was both the opacity of Rails (many people call it 'magic') and making sure everyone's work on Github is merged properly.

Features:

• CRUD for entries, stored in Postgresql database
• Random word function
• Search function

Pipeline

My final project for the bootcamp. The focus was on React. The hardest part was figuring out the routing and managing the states. I didn't get to learn Redux in time, which I have heard makes managing states easier. I will probably work to integrate it soon.

• Document edit history for tracking purposes
• Data table for easier queries
